Lecturer
Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, College of Engineering, UNT

The University of North Texas (UNT) seeks applications for a Lecturer position at Lecturer level in the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE). We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include teaching and advising at the undergraduate level. We anticipate a January 16, 2010 starting date. Lecturers hold non-tenure track renewable appointments of one or multiple years.

UNT is a major research university with rapidly growing engineering research and educational programs. UNT, with a current enrollment exceeding 36,000, is located in Denton, Texas, 35 miles north of Dallas, in the vicinity of many high-tech companies of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.

The College: UNT's College of Engineering was formed in 2003, and currently consists of the Departments of Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical and Energy Engineering. The college is housed in the 550,000-sq.-ft. Discovery Park facility of UNT.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must meet the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirements of an earned master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline and/or certification, licensing, or equivalent professional experience. The teaching discipline is Mechanical and/or Energy Engineering or in a closely related area.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants in all teaching areas of Mechanical and/or Energy Engineering will be considered, we are particularly interested in candidates with teaching experience in computer aided engineering, undergraduate project based instruction, energy engineering, and engineering systems design. Applicants with experience in ABET accreditation are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is preferred.

Assistant Professor
Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, College of Engineering, UNT

The University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a tenure-track position in the solid mechanics area in the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE), beginning August 2010. Other starting dates are possible. The position is at the Assistant Professor level with salaries, benefits and teaching loads typical for a major research university.

Minimum Qualifications: A candidate for this position should have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related field with research interests in experimental or computational mechanics.

Preferred Qualifications: The candidate's research areas include, but not limited to, mechanics of nanostructured materials, multiscale simulations, advanced composites, biomechanics, nano/micromechanics, dynamic behavior of materials, and mechanics of time-dependent materials.

Department Chair
Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, College of Engineering, UNT

Applications and nominations are invited for the Department Chair position in the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE) at the University of North Texas. The Department is part of the College of Engineering at the University of North Texas, was established in 2006, has five faculty members, and offers the BS and MS degrees.  The Department is currently applying to receive approval to start a Ph.D. program.  The new Chair will have the rare opportunity to hire a number of new faculty at all levels, and to build the educational and research profile of a new department.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with a record of significant and sustained research funding and scholarly output that qualifies them to the rank of full professor.

Preferred Qualifications: Administrative experience; experience in curriculum development; and demonstrated experience mentoring junior faculty.

UNT is the fourth largest university in Texas and is strategically located in Denton, 35 miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area. There are approximately 35,000 students registered in 93 bachelors, 111 masters, and 50 doctoral degree programs. This is an area of more than six million people, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments, and excellent school districts. The MEE Department is located in the UNT College of Engineering Research Park building with a total of 550,000 square feet. The Research Park boasts of 290 acres of land available for R&D enterprises.
